What To Expect From
Our Services
As
our guest you simply arrive and check in.
Our veteran Dock Staff will bring
a cart to your vehicle, load your gear and
put it on the boat. We go through
a checklist on the boat with you to make
sure you know the condition of the propeller
and the location of all safety equipment.
We then drive you out of the boat
slip, let ourselves off at the end of the
dock, and send you on your way! If
you have water tubes and/or skis they will
be stored with us and, per your request,
are placed on the boat prior to your arrival.
When you arrive back at the marina
our staff will meet you at the end of the
dock, drive you into the slip and cart your
gear to your vehicle.
Why
Join A Boat Club?
Boating
is a lot of fun and owning a boat is great
but it is considered to be a `luxury’ item.
In Minnesota, we might be fortunate
enough to have a one hundred and fifty day
(boating) season. Consider the amount
of times you could actually fit boating
into your work schedule, summer vacations,
and kid’s summer activities. Consider
what your cost-per-use would be. In
the Boat
Club versus Ownership
section on our website you can compare the
actual costs. The Boat Club is a
very economical way to fit boating into your lifestyle. Many people join for a season with the intent of purchasing a boat.
The club gives you a chance to use
a variety of boats to see what fits your
needs. Others join with the intent
of purchasing, but realize the benefits
of the Club and hassle–free boating fits
their lifestyle. The eyes-are-bigger-than-your-stomach
scenario fits when it comes to the Boat
Club. You may think that fifteen uses,
for example, is not enough. Some
members want to justify the cost by making
sure they get all their uses, others don’t
care if they get out eight out of fifteen
times. It all depends on how you look
at it. The value, hassle-free aspect,
quality and variety of boats and friendly
service seem to justify the cost for many,
which is why we sell out the Club and have
an extensive waiting list.
Benefits
to you include: Never having to clean,
take out the trash, fuel, uncover/cover
the boat when you are departing or returning.
No maintenance, no repairs, no slip,
storage, or winterization costs. The
Excel Boat Club staff does it all. In
fact we clean the boats twice a day and
do routine maintenance more often than you
can imagine! In addition, you are
not limited to one boat. You have
a variety of new boats to use depending
on what kind of boating you plan to do on
any given day.
How
Do You Reserve A Boat? Is It Difficult
Getting A Boat?
The
answer is no if you plan a few days ahead.
In 2007 we were able to reserve boats
for members on weekends as late as Thursday and Friday, but don’t count on it, you really should plan ahead.
When
you call to make a reservation you can request
a specific boat. You may have two
reservations on the system up to two weeks
in advance and one use per weekend. (Weekend is Friday PM thru Sunday PM and
Holiday's) Boating
times are split. You may choose from
one of two `shifts’. 9:00 am-2:30 pm or
4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Depending
on the weather, we try to start our season
around May 10th and close October 5th. As
we get later into late August boating times
are 9:00 am-2:30 pm and 3:30 pm-7:30 pm
due to the earlier sunset. From mid-September
to the end of the season the boats to go
out once a day with the member choosing
the time.
Are There Additional Costs?
You
pay for the fuel you use. We have
your credit card on file and all charges
are put on your account. You will
receive an itemized statement at the end
of each month listing your charges for each
use. Other charges you could incur
would include damage to the boats. You
would be responsible for the first $250.00
of damage. Propeller damage makes
up about 90% of the damage and the repair
cost averages around $125.00. Additional
charges would include: Hiring a Captain
(30.00) per hour or purchasing tubes, ski’s
and accessories. This
season we are offering a try-before-you
buy program for skis and wakeboards, but
not tubes. You can try out a ski or
wakeboard (with rope)and purchase it or
pay a $65.00 rental fee if you choose not
to purchase. This season we are offering
Connelly and CWB skis and wakeboards, the
highest quality products available!
What
Do You Need To Know About Boating on Lake
Minnetonka
Lake
Minnetonka is the #1 recreational boating
lake in Minnesota. Having a general
understanding of boating is helpful although
not necessary. We require
a two-three hour on-the-water orientation
that will cover a general tour of the lake.
On your orientation we highlight the
hazard areas, buoy identification, no wake
areas, bridges and channels.
You
will also receive a sixteen- page member
handbook, Minnesota Boating Safety booklet
and lake map with rules and regulations
specific to Lake Minnetonka. The handbook
is very descriptive and includes how to
make a reservation, description of boats,
policies and procedures, docking and anchoring
information, food and beverage catering
services, etc.
Your
Fleet Of Boats
For
the 2008 season we will be adding five new
boats for a total of eighteen. Your
fleet will include two 26 ft and two 28 ft Bennington luxury Pontoon Boats, four 24 ft Azure Deck Boats, four 25 ft Glastron Runabouts, three 23 ft Glastron Runabouts, one 23 ft Cuddy Cabin, one 17 ft fishing boat and one 22 ft Competition Ski / Wake Board Boat.
They have many amenities.
Who
Joins The Club?
Excel
Boat Club is very family oriented.
Our `average’ member is a very active
family consisting of a husband/wife with
two to three kids, fourteen years of age
and younger. We do have a handful
of members who actually live on the lake
and some retired couples who have owned
a variety of boats but prefer the convenience
and hassle-free aspect of the Club instead
of owning. Our members typically do not
have the time to boat enough to justify
purchasing and/or they do not want to be
tied up with the maintenance, repair, and
upkeep. Members use the boats for
family as well as business outings. `Business
Boating’ is a very unique and fun way to
entertain clients or employees.
